With the mighty Mississippi flowing through the Midwest, most of its usage is for navigational purposes. Parts of the Midwest are prone to flooding partly due to water being held by dams, as demonstrated by the historic flood in 1993. Rivers and irrigation are a big part of the Midwest farming culture. In such scenario, the only option we have before us is to manage the water wisely and protect our rivers.
