More Hydropower Projects Seek LIHI Certification

The last day of 2009 saw seven hydropower projects filing their application for certification with the Low Impact Hydropower Institute. In 2009 alone, the Institute issued certifications for nine projects throughout the country. So far, there are 46 LIHI certified projects in 24 states.

 


Three More Hydroelectric Projects Qualify as Low Impact

The Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI) has certified three more projects that meet their low-impact certification criteria. The three projects are Winooski in Vermont, Farmers Irrigation District in Oregon; and the Robertson and Ashuelot in New Hampshire.

 


LIHI Seeks Public Comments on Revised Criteria

Tallassee Shoals Project in GA Looks to Get LIHI Certification- Again

Twin Cities Hydro Project Seeks LIHI Certification

Tennessee's Tapoco Project earns Low Impact certification

The Tapoco hydropower project lies on the Little Tennessee and Cheoah rivers in Tennessee and North Carolina. Under a comprehensive settlement agreement and license, owner Alcoa will preserve virgin tracts of forest lands and restore flows to these Smoky Mountain streams. Now the project has earned Low Impact Certification from our partners at the Low Impact Hydropower Institute.


The Maine Event: Worumbo Receives LIHI Certification

The Low-Impact Hydropower Institute' s (LIHI) governing board voted unanimously on May 20th to certify the Worumbo hydroelectric dam, located on Maine's Androscoggin River. The facility, owned and operated by the Miller Hydro Group, became Maine's first hydroelectric project and the tenth project nationwide to receive certification as a low impact dam from LIHI, which began giving certifications in March 2001.
