Coalition members Foothill Conservancy, Friends of the River and California Sportfishing Alliance were successful in keeping sections of the Mokelumne River free flowing after a California utility dropped its plan to raise a dam on the river.

An interactive website that explains the effects of dams was made public yesterday by the Hydropower Reform Coalition. www.dameffets.org explains how the surrounding vegetation, fish, recreation areas and river flow can be impacted by dams. Also explained is how hydropower dams can be operated to minimize the impacts and enhance river quality.
