FERC Issues A New License for Markland Project on the Ohio River

FERC issued a license to Duke Energy, Indiana on September 07, 2010 for continued generation at the 64.8 MW Markland Hydroelectric project (P-2211).

The project is located on the Markland dam, owned and operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers, primarily for navigation.  Duke  Energy had proposed to operate the project in a run-of-release mode, whereby it will generate electricity using flows as released from the reservoir by the Corps during its normal operations for navigation.

As part of the license conditions, among others, Duke Energy is required to prepare and implement erosion and sediment control plan, dissolved oxygen monitoring plan and recreation plan. Since the current license only expires next year, this new license will be effective in May 2011.
