Hydro Bill Gets Unanimous Approval in the House

The US House unanimously approved the bipartisan Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act (HR 267) yesterday.

The bill aims to expedite the permitting process for conduit hydropower and direct the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to study the feasibility of a streamlined two-year permitting process for closed-loop pumped storage projects. The bill had sailed through the Energy and Commerce Committee last month.

The US Senate passed a companion bill in the last Congress and will likely take up a similar bill again this year.
