More Hydropower Projects Seek LIHI Certification

The last day of 2009 saw seven hydropower projects filing their application for certification with the Low Impact Hydropower Institute. In 2009 alone, the Institute issued certifications for nine projects throughout the country. So far, there are 46 LIHI certified projects in 24 states.

Of the seven newest projects seeking LIHI certification, five are owned by PacifiCorp. The seven projects are:


Editorial: Lake Powell Pipeline project needs better assessment

There have been increasing concerns in Utah about the proposed Lake Powell pipeline project which will also include hydropower projects. Although the project is primarily a water supply project, FERC has been charged to conduct the environmental analysis due to the proposal for power production.


Governor opposes Bear Lake project in Utah

The proposed 60-MW Hook Canyon project in Utah received a huge blow when the Governor of Utah decided that the voice of the general public and the value of the Bear lake for tourism and local ecosystem should not be compromised. Gov. Jon Huntsman recently directed the Division of State Parks and Recreation to drop negotiations for an easement, effectively killing the project.The proposed project was never received well by anyone.
